How to Obtain a Real Estate License in Massachusetts (2025 Guide)

If you're considering a career in real estate in Massachusetts, obtaining a license is your first step. The process is clearly defined by the Massachusetts Board of Registration of Real Estate Brokers and Salespersons. Here's a comprehensive guide to help you navigate the steps.

Basic Requirements

To apply for a Salesperson License, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Complete 40 hours of pre-licensing education at a Board-approved real estate school
  • Obtain a Certificate of Completion from the school
  • Secure three candidate endorsements from non-relatives and non-classmates
  • Pass the licensing exam with a score of at least 70%

Choose an Approved Real Estate School

Massachusetts has a list of authorized real estate schools that offer the required education. These schools will provide you with a Candidate Handbook, which includes instructions for scheduling your exam and verifying your education
